Mr. WordPress in town!

A few days ago I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Matt Mullenweg the creator and founder of WordPress software that powered this blog and our other blogs and our web magazine Live In The Philippines. He came to the Philippines to attend the WordCamp in Manila and Davao. The organizer is our friend Bloggie. After arriving in Manila, he just stay there for a day and came here to Davao. The WordCamp in Davao is 2 days before the Manila WordCamp. So he hangs around Davao and see some of the nice places here like Eden, Peoples Park and more. Really he is a down to earth guy. He is easy to get along with. We had the privilege of having dinner with him with Mr. Adobe himself too Ted Padova. He authors a lot of books about Adobe.

We went with Matt to Ranchero Grill for dinner. We let him have a taste of the baby back ribs that Ranchero’s famous for. He likes it, being Matt’s from Texas the barbecue place, we want to see how Ranchero compared to Texas. Well he likes the taste of the baby back ribs. He also like that the meat will just fell off from the bone. We let him taste some other food too like fried lumpia and sinuglaw(combination of sinugba & kinilaw). Really he will eat anything, I guess except durian I think. He even tasted the Tanduay rum and he likes it.

After dinner we took him to Jack’s Ridge. It’s a restaurant with coffee shop too. The view there is really something. You can see the whole city of Davao with the light on at night, its just awesome. Bob and I just stayed there for an hour. We didn’t hang out too long because its past midnight already. We had fun though.

Matt thank you so much for making the time to come and visit Davao. I do hope you come and visit again. Good luck and more power to WordPress!

Hang out!

A few nights ago the Bisaya teacher of Bob Bebe invited us to go and hear the music of one of her student. His going to perform live at Kangaroo Coffee shop. The show will start at 8pm. After Bebe was teaching Bob, the sessions ends like 6pm Bebe told us that she had to go home and feed her kids and she will come right back at our house before 8 o’clock for the show. So in between that time me and my nieces prepared our dinner too so that when we go to the coffee shop we will have our dessert there. Bebe was true to her word she came back at our house before 8. She waited a few minutes at our house because me and my nieces are not yet ready. While waiting her and Bob and the kids are happily chatting in Bisaya for Bob’s practice communicating too. By 8:10 off we went to the coffee shop.

When we got there, theirs already a lot of people there. The singer was already started performing. Bob told me that I will just order for everyone since its jammed pack inside. I did order and I asked the cashier to please bring our order outside since it is hard for us to sneak back inside to get what we order with so many people standing. He said “no problem ma’am”. So I went outside and joined Bob, Bebe and our 2 nieces Glenda and Dedeng. While waiting for our order we were listening to the performer. He was actually pretty good. Then in just few minutes the sound system went dead. We can’t hear anything from the singer. It’s okay because its nice to just talked with Bebe and my nieces too. Then all of a sudden the waiter came near our table and called  my name and told us to get our order. Really he could have just brought our order when he came and told us. I was not happy going inside to get our order passing through a lot of people. It’s pretty tight inside. That’s one thing I tried and don’t want to go to Kangaroo coffee shop because all of the other coffee shop here in Davao will deliver your order in your table. The thing is I saw some of their waitresses and waiters just standing behind the counters chatting a bit. For me I went there to relax and unwind. It just shocking to me that their waitresses and waiters can’t even just bring your food to your table.

Oh well, lots of coffee place here in Davao that we like to hang out too. Just go there and have fun and relax… I like Bose coffee club at F. Torres and SM, Bastis at Victoria mall, Fagioli along Bajada, Coffee Dream at SM, At Jack Ridge too, Kopi Roti I think in Jacinto. I like their bread there, Yummy…

Cheers!

A good seminar!

Two days ago Bob had a seminar here at our house. Supposed to be it should be held at one of the function rooms at K1. Needless to say K1 didn’t even know we existed when we went there the day before to check everything out. Luckily Bob decided to checked it out before the seminar. It would be embarrassing going there and we are not booked. My goodness I called them up a month ago to booked the seminar. I told them and explained to them what room I want. They said okay. Luckily no one was booked on the date that we said. So that thing was solve. Then Bob ask them if we could try to hooked up his laptop to their plasma TV? They said sure, you know what it didn’t work. Somehow a lot of the plug in it is hidden in the back and they hooked the TV right in the wall. You can’t go through the plug in. So Bob thought okay we will just use the projector. They said okay. When Bob tried the internet it didn’t work. Bob can’t have the seminar without the internet connection. Gosh, I was sitting in the couch there thinking Oh Lord we’re doomed. Lots of stuff played my mind on what are we going to do then?

Seminar at the Martin House
Seminar at the Martin House

While Bob was talking to the tech guy there, I was thinking maybe we could have the seminar at our house. We could tell that the guy just don’t know what to do. Bob called up his partner for the seminar and told him the problem. He also said that what if the seminar be held at our house. So that night me and my people in the house were busy preparing the room for the seminar. You know what it was a hard work but it turn out good. The people that attended told us they like it because it felt so homey. They said they like it better here.

To all that came thank you so much for coming and the support. It’s also nice meeting you guys. I know a lot of you are tired from the trip. I hope you guys learned a lot from it.

Mabuhay and God bless!

Frank’s aftermath!

Last week the Philippines was hit by a bad typhoon. It leaves a lot of people homeless and causing a lot of death. A ship that sail from Manila bound for Cebu didn’t make it through the trip. The ship sank in Romblon, an island in Southern Luzon.

The sad part the ship’s captain didn’t bother to just tell his big boss that his ship can’t sail due to typhoon. Passengers board the ship without knowing that bad weather is coming. Some people I think blame the coast guard why they didn’t bother to stop the ship too. Lot of the family of the passengers now are really mad at the ship owner. Honestly I can’t blame them. They are frustrated right now because no one will really give them good answer why the ship was allowed to sail with bad weather on the way.

flooding

I was watching on news on tv and they are showing the ship how big it is before the wreck. The report said that the ship size is like 7th story building. Now looking at it after the wreck it looks like just the bottom tip of it that you can see, the rest is under the water. The whole ship almost sank down. Can you imagine all the people inside the ship when its starting to go down the water. It’s really heartbreaking. I hope that they will recover all the dead people inside so that the family will have peace of mind.
